The ‘European Union in International Affairs’ (EUIA18) Conference provides a major forum for academics and policy-makers to debate the role of the EU in the turbulent realm of international affairs.

The sixth edition of this event will take place from 16 to 18 May 2018 and focus on the theme ‘Protecting and Projecting Europe’. #EUIA18 will be the single major stopover of the academic conference circuit in Brussels.

EUIA18 Best Paper Award

A selection of the EUIA18 best papers will be published in a themed section of the Journal of European Integration (JEI). To participate in the EUIA18 Best Paper Award please fill out an online form.

The first JEI Annual Lecture

EUIA18 will host high-level keynote addresses and will mark the 40th anniversary of the Journal of European Integration (JEI).

The Journal is honoured to announce that Dr Nathalie Tocci will give the first JEI Annual Lecture in the context of the EUIA2018 conference. Tocci’s talk, entitled “Academia and Practice in European foreign policy: Opportunities for mutual learning?” will be held on 16 May 2018. It constitutes the opening keynote address of the conference.

The organizers

The EUIA Conference is organized by The Institute for European Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (IES-VUB), the Institut d’études européennes at the Université libre de Bruxelles (IEE-ULB), the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS) and Egmont – the Royal Institute for International Relations.
