The Wiener-Anspach Foundation awards grants to researchers without a permanent position who have presented their thesis at ULB and wish to continue their research at the University of Cambridge or Oxford, as well as to researchers who have presented their thesis at the University of Cambridge or Oxford and wish to continue their research at the Université libre de Bruxelles.

The grants awarded by the Wiener-Anspach Foundation are in line with its social purpose, which is to promote and strengthen relations between the Université libre de Bruxelles and the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford.

These grants are open to all disciplines.

The postdoctoral fellowship is for a maximum of 12 months. It will be possible to start research in Cambridge or Oxford as from 1 October 2022 but in no case after 1 January 2023.

The Scientific Council selects the laureates. The results of the first selection (on the basis of applications) will be announced at the end of April 2022. The selected candidates will be invited for an interview in mid-May (the exact date and modalities will be communicated at the time of submission of the application).

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible, you must have obtained your doctorate from ULB after 1/10/2017 and no later than 31/12/2022.

Deadline for application

Applications must be received no later than noon on Monday 14 March 2022.

Financial terms and conditions

PhDs working at the University of Cambridge or Oxford receive a ‘scholar’s stipend’ (£2,400/month).

Important: The scholar’s grant is a non-taxable research grant that does not provide social or medical coverage in Belgium (no contributions are paid during the period of the grant).

Visas

Following the Brexit, a visa is required to legally reside in the UK. You can find more information on this in the application form.

Colleges

Affiliation with a college is strongly recommended (the host sponsor will be able to guide you in your choice). The Wiener-Anspach Foundation has a partnership with Wolfson College, Oxford and St John’s College, Cambridge. Please note, however, that the award of a Foundation Fellowship does not automatically result in a positive response from the college authorities, who select Fellows according to their assessment criteria.
