The Debate on the Future of Europe is an annual initiative jointly organized since 2020 by the Institute for European Studies (IEE) at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and the Department of European Political and Governance Studies (POL) at the College of Europe in Bruges. It brings together students from both institutions to engage in critical reflection and dialogue on the main challenges facing the European Union today.

The purpose of this initiative is not only to foster academic exchange between future European professionals but also to produce practical policy recommendations on some of the most pressing issues currently on the EU agenda. This year, five key themes were explored:

  • Citizenship
  • Migration
  • EU in the World
  • Agriculture
  • Social and Technological Transformation

Each group of students co-authored a policy brief aimed at offering fresh perspectives and actionable proposals for European policymakers.
