European reflections (1964-2024) : between change and continuity
Our anniversary is an opportunity to ponder on the state of Europe today, and consider what it means to teach, research and debate European integration in 2024, compared with 1964, the year the IEE-ULB was founded.
This question underpins the three sessions on February 27:
- 9am – 10:45am: “What have we done since our 50th anniversary?” is rooted in the work carried out in 2014 during the celebration of IEE’s fiftieth anniversary. We want to take stock of the last ten years (2014-2024) and look ahead to the years to come, through the testimonies of former IEE presidents and authorities of the ULB.
- 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: “Core questions still on the European agenda : The Europe of Treaties Vs. the Europe of Societies” highlights constant debates on the European agenda. It addresses three dimensions at the heart of recent work at ULB: Social Europe, the relationship between European institutions and member states, and citizens’ perceptions.
- 2.30 – 4.30 pm: “Teaching, Researching, Debating: on, with, for or against Europe. Different institutional experiences in comparison”, places the experience of the IEE-ULB in a comparative perspective with other high-level teaching and research institutions.
The event will be followed by an informal reception for all members of the IEE (teachers, researchers, students, alumni, institutional partners and interested citizens).
