Dear alumna, dear alumnus of the IEE,
Come back to the classrooms of our charming villa on 39 avenue Franklin Roosevelt and take a moment to exchange with fellow IEE Alumni next April 28, starting at 6:15 p.m. The event, organised by our IEE Alumni co-presidency will bring back ambassadors and IEE Alumni H.E. Iulia Matei and H.E. Petar Markovic , for a Q&A to be followed by a networking cocktail in the beautiful IEE gardens (weather permitting).
About ambassador Iulia Matei
H. E. Iulia Matei is the Romanian Ambassador to the European Union. She has been a career diplomat since 2003 and has gone through all the professional stages up to the current diplomatic rank of Ambassador. Throughout her diplomatic career, she has mainly worked on EU affairs, both in Bucharest and in Brussels. Prior to her appointment as Secretary of State, she held, since April 2013, the position of Deputy Director General and subsequently, from 2016, Director General for EU Affairs within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In this capacity, she was responsible for managing all EU related aspects, both from the perspective of the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as coordinator of the national system of European affairs, as well as of the bilateral diplomatic dialogue with EU Member States.
She graduated in 2001 from the Faculty of Political and Administrative Sciences – the French section – within the University of Bucharest and she obtained a master’s degree in EU institutions and policies, at the Institute for European Studies of the ULB – Université Libre de Bruxelles.
About ambassador Petar Markovic
H.E. Petar Marković is Head of the Mission of Montenegro to the EU. He is also a visiting professor in Brussels and a long-standing expert of European policies, whose knowledge is based on academic education, continuous educational improvement, as well as working experience in eminent educational non-government institutions.
P.Marković graduated in the field of international relations on the Faculty of Political science of the Belgrade University, he finished his Master’s degree in European Law on the Faculty of Law of the Belgrade University in English, on the topic of “European service for foreign affairs: Shaping post-national diplomatic system”.
As a scholarship holder of the Erasmus Mundus program of a dual doctorate of the European Commission, he attended PhD studies of the Free University of Brussels and LUISS University in Rome. Additionally, with Wiener-Anspach Belgian-British scholarship, he finished the fourth year of PhD studies at the Oxford University, actively participating in the Center for European Studies and South East Europe. He defended his PhD thesis “Democratic deficit of the European Union and transnational democratic political culture” in 2019 In Brussels and Rome.
