Mr. Domènec Ruiz Devesa, Member of the European Parliament, will present the main political and legal novelties of the European Parliament’s Proposal, of 3 May 2022, for a new Council Regulation on the election of the Members of the European Parliament by direct universal suffrage, for which he was the rapporteur. He will also present its advantages from a democratic point of view and the discussion that has taken place so far at the political level.
His presentation will be commented, from the perspective of political science, by Professors Pascal Delwit, Jean Benoit Pilet et Emilie Van Haute. Professor Julio Baquero Cruz will offer some comments from a legal perspective. This will be followed by a discussion between the participants and the public. IEE President, professor Ramona Coman will moderate.
