Political lessons learned by a political scientist who used to be an MEP

Professor of political science at the University of Bucharest and dean of his faculty, Cristian Preda was elected to the European Parliament between 2009 and 2019.

In a dialogue with Professor Jean-Michel de Waele, he will discuss the role of the EP’s political groups in managing some crises – such as the single currency crisis, the migrant crisis, or Brexit – but also the way the Parliament has dealt with policies such as enlargement and neighborhood or with the electoral observation missions, seen as a tool for democratization. Does political science serve a purpose when one is an MEP? Does it gain something from the action of the Strasbourg Parliament?
