About the speakers
Andrew Bradley advises Governments and International Organisations on governance, development and democracy. From 2020 until August 2023, he served as Chief of Staff and Head of the Office of the Secretary-General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). Bradley headed the Office of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) to the European Union (EU) in Brussels, Belgium from 2012 to 2018. He served as the Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Human Development of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP Group) of States from 2005 to 2010. Prior to that, he served as a diplomat in South African Embassies and Missions in Canada, Switzerland and Belgium. He is a Scientific Collaborator of the IEE-ULB and a research Fellow at the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS).
François Foret is professor of political science, researcher at Cevipol. He is president of the Institut d’études européennes of the Université libre de Bruxelles and Fellow at the European Governance and Politics Programme, European University Institute, Florence
Francois Heinderyckx is professor in media studies and political communication at ULB. He is the advisor to the Rector of ULB for CIVIS (the European Universities Alliance of ULB, similar to CIVICA for EUI), and project advisor for PolyCIVIS, a Jean Monnet Policy Debate: Foreign policy issues: EU-AFRICA which was recently launched.
Mehari Taddele Maru is a Part-time Professor at the School of Transnational Governance and Migration Policy Centre at the European University Institute and a Fellow at the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS), Bruges. A graduate of Harvard and Oxford universities, he holds a Ph.D. in Legal Sciences from JL Giessen University, Germany, an MPA from Harvard, an MSc from the University of Oxford, and an LLB from Addis Ababa University
The YALP
The Young African Leaders Programme (YALP) of the EUI School of Transnational Governance (STG) is a fully endowed fellowship for aspiring leaders from Africa wishing to develop their policy work and professional skills amidst international experts and global leaders. Participants will take part in seminars, trainings and skills development sessions, conferences, and study visits in Europe, like this one to the IEE in Brussels.
