The Institute for European Studies at the Université libre de Bruxelles and its partner faculties have the pleasure to invite you to the opening of the academic year 2017-2018 that will consist of an open lecture in English by Professor Dr. Kiran Klaus Patel (K.K.) from Maastricht University, on the topic The historical dimension of Brexit.

Historian Nicolas Verschueren, professor of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences and coordinator of the History and Cultures concentration of the Master in European Studies, will be in charge of the introductory words.

The speaker

Dr. Kiran Klaus Patel (K.K.) is Professor of European and Global History at Maastricht University since September 2011. Jean Monnet Chair since 2014. Associate Dean Research since 2016. From 2011 to 2015, he served as head of the department of history.

Before joining Maastricht University, he was a Joint Chair at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy (2007-2011; Department of History and Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies) and an assistant professor at Humboldt University in Berlin (2002-2006).

He is a member of the editorial boards of Contemporary European History; the Journal of European Integration History; Monde(s): Histoire, Espaces, Relations; New Global Studies; Ventunesimo secolo and Docupedia Zeitgeschichte.
