Context

Three years after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and as the EU faces new geopolitical, energy and commercial challenges, the bloc’s economic governance framework is in great need for adjustment. Against this background, the European Commission has, in November 2022, put forward orientations for the reform of the framework, and later made, in April 2023, a number of legislative proposals towards a revision of the Stability and Growth Pact. The response to the American Inflation Reduction Act is too in the making.
