Series of Events - A surprising Switzerland for Tomorrow’s Europe
Although it might surprise some, the Euro -Swiss relationship is of a particular importance in a whole host of areas.
As such, the European Union (EU) and Switzerland are respectively each other’s fourth and first export destination; their financial markets and institutions are uniquely intertwined; and their cross-border flows - whether intellectual or human - are remarkably intense.
So it should come as no surprise that the EU and Switzerland will play a notable role in shaping each other’s futures. Fostering a deeper understanding of this oft underestimated relationship is therefore particularly welcome. With this purpose in mind, the Mission of Switzerland to the European Union and the Rectorat of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) decided to join forces and entrust the ULB’s Institute for European Studies with the organization of a series of events highlighting the surprising role Switzerland is to play in view of Europe’s future.
Over a 2-year period, a series of events kick-started in January 2014 will include conferences and seminars on a host of complementary themes, including: (1) international humanitarian law and action; (2) regulation and financial markets; (3) renewed cooperation and bilateral integration; and (4) the role of multinational enterprises in strengthening economic competitiveness. Finally, the cycle will also include a graduate summer school in 2015.
