The changing face of state aid policy

The article of Marianne Dony, Professeure honoraire and former president of the IEE, closes the thematic chapter on “Europe and the economy”. 

In response to the protectionism of China and the United States, the Commission has been pushed to soften its policy on state aid control. In her article professor Dony argues that this action was taken despite the clear understanding of the ensuing risks a subsidy race could pose to the single market and cohesion, given the significant disparities in the budgetary capacities of different states.
