Media and Communications Conference Series
Because we all become EU communicators
The Executive Course
Christophe Leclercq is founder of the media EURACTIV and Concha Lozano is a journalist with 15 years experience as European correspondent. They will jointly provide this course, explaining how media and communication works in EU circles and helping participants to become better communicators themselves.
Over the last two decades, the European Union has been transformed, from crisis to crisis. It has taken on a wide range of tasks touching citizens’ lives in many ways. But Europe’s communication has not kept pace, and as citizens interact on new platforms, the media sector itself struggles. The gap between the European Union and its citizens is widely recognized, feeding populism and ill-informed policy decisions.
New media and communication tools have changed the way we communicate, from EU Institutions and governments to parties, industry federations and NGOs. All, from top politicians to citizen groups now play a role and influence each other. This is now done in a less structured way, where press releases, press conferences and lead articles do not dominate any more, but communication permeates all activities.
This course will describe relations between EU stakeholders and various forms of media, how communication affects the political, economic and social existence and governance of the European Union.
